Big 12 rankings, Week 12: The 1980s rock music video version

Standard

We’re down to the final week of Big 12 play, which happens to be rivalry week. Going into the last week, five teams are still alive for a division title – Nebraska and Missouri in the North, and Oklahoma State, Oklahoma and Texas A&M in the South.

This week’s rankings are brought to you by 80s rock music videos (and one borderline rock video by Steve Winwood). The inspiration for that? “Bloodsport” is on, and it’s one of the great (and terrible) 1980s flicks …

1. NEBRASKA (9-2, 5-2): Last week, lost to Texas A&M 9-6. This week, vs. Colorado. Never mind that the Cornhuskers lost to Texas A&M. Bo Pelini looked like a mad man Saturday. Anybody else embarrassed for Nebraska fans? Me either. Good riddance. But if you’re going to go away, don’t go away mad, just go away …

Note: Sony should have its ass kicked. The blocked video is located here. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-H3btZNkOy8

2. OKLAHOMA STATE (10-1, 6-1): Last week, defeated Kansas 48-14. This week, vs. Oklahoma. Yes, I know Oklahoma State is the only one-loss team in the conference, but that one loss was at home to Nebraska so they stay at No. 2. Mike Gundy looks like a character straight out of “Top Gun” and the Cowboys’ game against Oklahoma is in the danger zone …

Note 2: Also blocked by the embed nazi assclowns at youtube. Here’s the link … http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h3rTTHlzWZ0. The rest of the clips in this blog are fine.

3. OKLAHOMA (9-2, 5-2): Last week, defeated Baylor 53-24. This week, at Oklahoma State. The Sooners finally looked good on the road, crushing a reeling Baylor team from the opening kickoff. OU has been outstanding in Norman, but mama, the Sooners aren’t coming home this week for arch rival OSU …

4. MISSOURI (9-2, 5-2): Last week, defeated Iowa State 14-0. This week, vs. Kansas. You knew this was coming. Missouri will have nightmares for a long time about that Texas Tech game. That lost will end up costing the Tigers a spot in the Big 12 championship game. So, the Tigers still haven’t found what they’re looking for (a conference championship) …

5. TEXAS A&M (8-3, 5-2): Last week, defeated Nebraska 9-6. This week, at Texas. Probably the hottest team in the conference right now and a three-point loss to Oklahoma State away from being in control in the South. But compared to where they were a few weeks ago, the Aggies are back in the high life again …

6. BAYLOR (7-5, 4-4): Last week, lost to Oklahoma 53-24. Regular season finished. Good thing the Bears wrapped up a bowl bid a few weeks ago because they have been awful lately. Talk about free falling …

7. KANSAS STATE (6-5, 3-5): Last week, lost to Colorado 44-36. This week, at North Texas. As I said last week, it’s a testament to good coaching that the Wildcats are eligible for a bowl. That defense is like watching Armageddon (it) …

8. IOWA STATE (5-7, 3-5): Last week, lost to Missouri 14-0. Season finished. Paul Rhoads came in a close second in the raving lunatic column to Pelini last weekend. The Cyclones have nobody to blame but themselves for not going bowling after an ill-advised gamble to go for two against Nebraska in overtime and a loss at Colorado. But, but a little patience ISU fans, Rhoads is a good coach …

9. TEXAS TECH (6-5, 3-5): Last week, defeated Weber State 64-21. This week, vs. Houston. Still trying to figure out Texas Tech’s schedule with two nonconference games in November. Tech did have an impact on the Big 12 race, likely costing MU a North title and beating Baylor. I still miss Mike Leach. This one’s for you …

10. TEXAS (5-6, 2-5): Last week, defeated Florida Atlantic 51-17. This week, vs. Texas A&M. What’s gotten into Mack Brown lately? It’s his players’ fault. It’s his coaches’ fault. How about it’s YOUR fault. There’s no excuse for having 50 five-star recruits on your roster and being 5-6. Give Longhorn fans something to believe in …

11. COLORADO (5-6, 2-5): Last week, defeated Kansas State 44-36. This week, at Nebraska. What’s gotten into the Buffs? Suddenly they’re one win from bowl eligibility, and they play their rival to gain that distinction. As for Dan Hawkins, pretty sure this is how CU fans feel ..

12. KANSAS (3-8, 1-6): Last week, lost to Oklahoma State 48-14. This week, vs. Missouri. Kansas returned to form last week, taking a beating against Oklahoma State. Of course, the Jayhawks can still ruin their arch rival’s season next week, especially if Colorado upsets Nebraska. Still, I suspect this is how the Hawks will feel Saturday …
